Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has emerged victorious in five out of the seven Local Government Areas that have been declared in Plateau State. These LGAs include Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Jos East, Langtang North, and Bokkos. The remaining two LGAs were won by Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the PDP.
Reports indicate that Plateau State has a total of 17 Local Government Areas. According to the declaration made by Dr Rabi Nimlan for Langtang North LGA, Obi secured 21,590 votes, followed by Atiku Abubakar with 17,751 votes, and the candidate of the ruling APC with 8,706 votes.
In Jos East LGA, which is considered a stronghold of the APC, the Labour Party candidate narrowly won after polling 6,386 votes, while the APC’s Tinubu scored 6,348 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP received 5,144 votes. The results for Jos East LGA were announced by Prof. Sunday Alemuka, the LGA Collation Officer.
The Collation Officer of Bokkos LGA, Prof. Francis Ojaide, also declared Obi as the winner of the election in the council, with 32,581 votes, defeating the candidates of the APC and PDP who secured 10,858 and 8,569 votes, respectively. In Langtang South LGA, the PDP’s Atiku Abubakar emerged as the winner of the election with 12,467 votes, while the candidates of the APC and Labour Party secured 7,478 and 6,045 votes, respectively. The results for Langtang South LGA were announced by Dr. Dakas Gopar, the Collation Officer.
Earlier, had been reported that Peter Obi had won in Barkin Ladi LGA with 32,489 votes, while the APC’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu scored 12,514 votes, and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP secured 9,073 votes. In Riyom LGA, Obi also emerged as the winner with 15,171 votes, defeating Atiku who secured 8,181 votes, while Tinubu of the APC scored 6,936 votes. In Mikang LGA, Atiku Abubakar secured 7,211 votes, narrowly defeating Obi who got 7,201 votes, while Tinubu of the APC scored 5,044 votes.
At the time of filing this report, results from ten more LGAs are still awaited.
